The Sixth FormHaving obtained this qualification, the boy enters the Sixth Form where he begins an Advanced Course of study in some specialized work. He should normally spend two years or more in this Form - years which are universally regarded as being the most valuable period of a boy's school life. He now occupies an important position in the College and he takes an active part in the General Assembly of the School which is held each morning. If he wishes to specialize in Commerce, he takes both parts of the Intermediate Examination for the Degree of Bachelor of Commerce of the University of London; he may also take the corresponding examination for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Economics if he so desires. If he wishes to specialize in Arts or in Science he takes the Intermediate Examinations for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science of the same University. If he wishes to proceed to Oxford or Cambridge he takes the Higher Certificate Examination of the Oxford and Cambridge Joint Board, or a similar examination, and in the December or January following his success he may compete for an Open Scholarship at one of the Older Universities with a reasonable prospect of obtaining it. If the boy wishes to be a doctor or dentist he is given the necessary "pre-registration" training in Chemistry, Physics and Biology. The Sixth Form consists, in fact, of boys pursuing Advanced Courses which cover a wide range and which are directed by highly qualified specialists in the various subjects. |
