It sounds almost too good to be true. The company has a six month vacancy in Sydney, Australia. Flights, accommodation, and expenses all taken care of. Am I interested? Is the Pope a Catholic?!

I almost didn't let myself believe it was going to happen. First it was on, then off, then on again. Would we fly straight from our European vacation or come back via Vancouver? Would I be able to cope with having my girlfriend for a boss?!

All the questions were answered satisfactorily, and eventually I was boarding a DC-10, bound for Sydney, via Honolulu. With all my posessions stored in a friend's basement, and my car left in the care of, appropriately enough, an Australian, I was off to explore another continent. And this time, it was more than just a holiday...
