Rainbow Lorikeet

...in which our intrepid hero seriously doubts Australia's claim to sunniness, but enjoys being woken up by a parrot.

You've seen them. All those shots of the bridge and the Opera House against a background of perfect blue sky. Exotic flora and fauna luxuriating in golden rays. Azure seas, golden sands. Welllllll... I don't believe it. I'm coming round to the idea that it's just as overcast and grey as the UK (only not quite so depressing, of course) and that the blue skies are an elaborate con dreamed up by tourist agencies and covert government organisations.

Karl, who knows a flaming ball of fire when he sees one, was here earlier in the year, and vouches for the fact that the sun appeared to be vacationing elsewhere then too. What does it all add up to? Conspiracy. People in high places know something. The truth is out there, probably somehere near Dubbo, about which I know nothing, but just like saying the word. It could also be in Woolloomoolloo, of course, or Turramurra.

This morning my slumber was disturbed by an ungodly shrieking coming from outside. Closer inspection revealed that our balcony was today's venue du choix for the Parrot Chorus. A cheeky little green fellow with a rather fetching orange scarf was doing his number with verve and gusto. Just as raucous as a starling, but somewhat more attractive.

I wonder how he'd look against a sunny background...
