History

Launceston College inherits the valuable traditions of the two Schools from which it has sprung: Dunheved College, which was founded as a Public School during the great educational years of the Mid-Victorian era, and which had outstanding success in Higher Education under Dr Ralph, Mr G. O. Turner, and Mr B. B. Hardy; and the ancient foundation of Horwell Grammar School, which originated as Launceston Grammar School in 1548, and took its name from one John Horwell, a native of Launceston, who was a great benefactor in the first years of the eighteenth century. The present Headmaster is Mr H. Spencer Toy.

Old Boys

A large and enthusiastic Old Boys' Association shows the keenest interest in the welfare and development of the College. Unusually large numbers of Old Boys have achieved success in the Dominions and Colonies; there have also been outstanding successes in Commerce and Industry, as well as in the Medical, Scholastic, Legal and other Professions, and in Scientific Research.

It is the aim of the Headmaster and Governors to develop still further the specialized training that will ensure the continuance and increase of these successes in all departments of National Life, both at home and Overseas.
